Structured data
Structured data helps Google understand your page better, without your visitors seeing any of it.
Structured data for rich snippets
Rich snippets are extra details Google can add to a search result, such as ratings (the yellow stars), products and prices. Google takes that information from your structured data. If Google had to pull it from the text of your page, it would still get a lot of it wrong. Google only adds these details when it is completely sure they are correct, and structured data gives it that certainty.
Structured data for news results
For some searches you see news articles at the top of the results. To be eligible, you have to meet a number of requirements. One of them is that your news articles are marked up with structured data.
Which structured data can you use?
Structured data covers a huge range, and you can mark up almost any kind of information with it. Google only uses a small part of it in the search results. We recommend using the following types.
- Articles
- Businesses and organizations (Local Businesses)
- Breadcrumbs
- Events
- Music
- People
- Products and prices
- Recipes
- Reviews
- Social profiles
- Website name and logo
