Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a free tool from Google that measures and shows how visitors behave on your site. You can see, among other things, how many visitors you had, where they came from, how long they stayed and what they did on your site.
That gives you a good picture of how your visitors behave and how good your pages are. You see where your site does well and where it can still improve.
How does Google Analytics work?
Getting Google Analytics running is easy. Sign in to the Google Analytics website with your Google account and add your website. Google then gives you a small piece of JavaScript, called the tracking code. You place this code on (every page of) your website. When someone visits your page, the tracking code sends information about that visitor to Google. You can view that data inside Analytics.
What can you measure with Google Analytics?
Universal Analytics, the previous version of Google Analytics, split its reports into five categories.
- Real-time: what visitors are looking at on your website right now, where they come from and which goals are being reached.
- Audience: who visits your website and where they come from
- Acquisition: which channel brought your visitors to your website
- Behavior: what your visitors see and do on your website
- Conversions: what your website delivers
